Rohan Joshi began his career when he joined the Mumbai stand-up comedy circuit in 2008 with his partner comedians, Tanmay Bhat and Ashish Shakya. Joshi and his fellow comedian Bhat worked at JLT( Just Like That), a weekly youth-based humour magazine broadcasted by The Times of India till 2008. They worked at a comedy consultancy company named Weirdass Comedy, founded by Vir Das.
He started working as a journalist at CNBC after college. He also worked as a TV Journalist at Hamateur Night in 2010. Gradually, He started working as a full-time comedian. Besides that, he and Bhat performed improv, a form of theatre, often comedy, with other actors named Das, Kavi Shastri, Ashwin Mushran and Anu Menon as The Cardinal Bengals.
Later, in 2011, he performed at the most prestigious comedy festival, Fringe Festival and entered the selected group of Indian comics to perform at the Comedy Store in London. In his team of the trio, Delhi-based comedian Gursimran Khamba joined the trio when Joshi moved to Mumbai to join the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).
Subsequently, In 2012, he co-wrote the scripts for Filmfare awards, MTV and Channel V. He has performed in more than 250 incredible shows.
The four comedians, Tanmay Bhat, Ashish Shakya, Gursimran Khamba and Joshi, started the podcast “All India Bakchod“, and Joshi became co-creator of the satirical news comedy show On Air with AIB. Being a social media personality, Rohan Joshi has been in the controversy. He got into the discussion when his tweet over comedian Raju Srivastu’s death got widespread outrage on Twitter, which he had to delete after facing too much criticism.
Atul posted about Raju’s demise on Instagram with a caption, “RIP Rajubhai. You were such an inspiration to so many. Whenever you went on stage, you lit it up. Your presence was such that when people just saw you, there was an automatic smile on their faces. You will be truly missed. A big loss for the Indian Stand-up Comedy scene.”
On that post, Joshi commented, “We haven’t lost a thing. Whether it was Karm, the roast, or any coming in the news. Raju Srivastava took every opportunity he ever got to shit on new comics, especially after the new wave of stand-up started. He went on every fkall news channel every time he was invited to go shit on an upcoming art form and call it offensive just because he couldn’t understand it and new stars were rising. He might have told a few good jokes, but he understood nothing about the spirit of comedy or defending someone’s right to say something, even if you disagree. F^^k him and good .”
Right after his tweet, he received lots of hate for stating Raju’s death was “Karma”, and then he took his tweet down after the backlash, saying, “Yehi soch kar delete kiya kyuki after a minute of anger I realised today is not about my personal feelings. Sorry if it hurt, and thanks for the perspective,”
