The year 2024 marks two years since Strickland has been away from the race track following the murder of a fellow professional cyclist and once-girlfriend, Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson. He now refers to himself as a “former bicycle racer.”

Reason For Strickland Leave Cycling
After Mo’s death, some went ablaze on the internet, blaming Colin’s actions, which sent his then-partner, Armstrong, into a rage and led to the woeful crime.
In May 2022, he released a statement stating he never intended to reconcile his romance with Wilson or to mislead anyone.
“There is no way to adequately express the regret and torture I feel about my proximity to this horrible crime. I am sorry, and I simply cannot make sense of this unfathomable situation […] It was not my intention to pursue along an auxiliary romantic relationship that would mislead anyone. [..]”
Probably, it left a deep scar on him, and as a result, he opted out of his racing career.

Murder Of Mo Wilson: A Love Triangle Led Rage And Crime
On May 11, 2022, the New Hampshire native cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson was found dead in the home of her friend Caitlin Cash’s home in Austin, Texas. She was shot two times in her head and one time in her chest; the autopsy report concluded the time of death at 8:30 pm.
The police investigation found that hours before her murder, she was out for a swim at Deep Eddy Pool and dinner with the 2019 Unbound Gravel winner Colin Strickland. According to his statement, he had dropped her and left for home.
Moments before her death, a black Jeep Grand Cherokee belonging to Colin’s on-off girlfriend, Kaitlin Armstrong, was at the neighborhood of the scene.
During the investigation, it came out that Mo and Colin briefly had a relationship from late October 2021 to November that lasted for a week. He had broken up with Kaitlin then, but they reconciled later.
However, Armstrong was not pleased with his connection with Mo.
On May 10, 2022, when Wilson arrived in Austin, Texas, to prepare for the Gravel Locos bike race, she reached out to Strickland, and they planned to hang out, which the latter claims as “purely platonic.”
As reported, Colin didn’t tell Kaitlin about his plans with Mo, fearing of her reaction. However, Armstrong had access to Strickland’s messages and tracked his whereabouts.
So, she later approached Mo Wilson at her friend Cash’s Austin residence and fatally shot her, which authorities ruled as homicide out of rage and jealousy.
According to a police affidavit, Armstrong reached home later than Colin on the night of the murder and seemed calm as if nothing happened. Moreover, no one in the neighborhood heard gunshots, implying that she used a silencer.

Initial Police Investigation Failed To Arrest Kaitlin Armstrong
A day after the murder, on May 12, police took Colin and Armstrong in custody for investigation. During his affidavit, Strickland confirmed buying two handguns for Armstrong and himself. It turned out that the casings from the gunshots matched the 9mm Sig Sauer handgun in the duo’s possession.
However, despite video evidence of her vehicle at the sight of the murder scene, Kaitlin got out after a clerical error. There were discrepancies in her date of birth in the warrant and the police department database.
After her release, Kaitilin made her move to flee from the United States.
As reported, she sold her Jeep Cherokee for cash to a CarMax dealership. Then, she flew to Houston and took flights to LaGuardia Airport in New York and Newark Airport in New Jersey before going abroad.
How Was Colin’s Murder-Convict Fugitive Girlfriend, Kaitlin, Arrested?
From different sources, the US Marshals found out that Kaitlin fled to Costa Rica using her sister’s passport. Further investigation narrowed the search to Santa Teresa. However, it was nothing short of a needle-in-a-haystack challenge to locate her.
Professionally, Katilin was a yoga teacher and licensed realtor. So, with the help of local authorities, the US Marshals Damien Fernandez and Emir Perez devised a plan and placed an ad on Facebook looking for a yoga instructor.
Surprisingly, Armstrong, who changed her name to “Beth,” contacted them. As reported, she underwent plastic surgery to change her appearance, which included a $6,000 nose job and brow lift.
Upon confirming her identity, they arrested her on June 29, 2022, after a 43-day run at a hostel in Santa Teresa. The officials also found receipts of payments for plastic surgery.
Colin Strickland’s Testified In The Trail Against Armstrong
After Armstrong didn’t plead guilty to the charge of murder on July 21, 2022, she was detained on a $3.5 million bond at Travis County Jail, with her delayed trial date on October 30, 2023.
On the fourth day of the trial, on November 3, Strickland appeared in the courtroom to testify against Kaitlin Armstrong, stating that she was a “passive-aggressive” girlfriend and addressing the “tumultuous” on-off relationship.
The jury verdict found Kaitlin guilty of murder on November 16, 2023, and sentenced her to 90 years in prison, with parole eligibility after 30 years of sentence.
