Navara’s parents, Mirko Navara and Lia Brezikova may not have had chess prominence, but they are academically and professionally content.
His father, Mirko Navara, is an associate professor at Czech Technology University, Prague, where he’s been teaching mathematics since 1987. He goes by the salutation of ‘Prof.,’ ‘DrSc.,’ and ‘Ing.’ (engineer).

How Did Chess Become An Integral Part Of David Navara?
Navara found a chess book when he was six years old and learned about the game. With his growing enthusiasm and developing skills, he connected with pro chess players like Miloslav Vanka and IM Josef Přibyl.
Then, he got to train under the wing of GMs Luděk Pachman and Vlastimil Jansa.
Having won the Czech Republic’s national junior chess championships, David debuted at an international open tournament in 1994. At 14, in 1999, he got the International Master title, and a year later, he finished 6th at the European U-20 Championship and 5th at the World U-18 Championship.
At 16, in 2001, Navara debuted for the Czech national team in the European Team Chess Championship, Leon, where he achieved a norm with 7/9 points. In 2002, three days before his 17th birthday, he got the Grandmaster title.
In the 2007 Tata Steel Chess Tournament, David made a sensation after defeating GMs Magnus Carlsen and Ruslan Ponomariov in the first meet-up. There, he finished 7th.
