Sea Shimooka was in a drama class during high school, but until then, she was not serious about acting. Instead, she joined drama to be around her friends. She was an accomplished athlete and played competitive volleyball.
However, after discovering that her height (5′ 9″) was not enough to land her in the professional volleyball route, she chose to study fashion. After applying to every liberal arts or communications program in New York and Los Angeles, she was accepted to New York University.
On her orientation day, she saw the Tisch Drama assembly next to hers. It prompted her to realize how much she loves acting (from watching Broadway shows to being passionate about the camera). So, she approached one of the Tisch administrators and asked for the transfer.
