When Asim Munir joined the 23 Frontier Force, he started his career as a Second Lieutenant in the Pakistan Army in 1986. He completed the 17th officer training course named Mangla. He was rewarded the coveted sword of honour for his excellent service.

Before taking charge at the General headquarters, he was assigned as the quartermaster general. Eventually, he was appointed Brigade Major (BM) of an infantry division deployed in Kel, Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

Subsequently, he was designated as General Staff Officer-II (GSO-II) in an infantry brigade. When he became Lieutenant Colonel, he was posted to Madina, Saudi Arabia, where he learned the Quran and got the label of “Hafiz-e-Quran“. As he was promoted to Colonel, he operated as the Commanding Officer of the 23rd Battalion of the Frontier Force Regiment.

Furthermore, He has worked as the director general of Military Intelligence (MI). Then, in 2018, he was appointed to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) post-director-general, which was transferred as corps commander Gujranwala, where he was posted as quartermaster general for his last assignment.

Asim Munir has come to the heat of news recently after he made a speech during a visit to Sialkot Garrison, where he was accused of intimidating to teach a lesson to retired PM Imran Khan and his supporters in the middle of an ongoing crackdown on PTI after the May 9 protests under the Army Act of 1952 via military courts.
