Before taking charge at the General headquarters, he was assigned as the quartermaster general. Eventually, he was appointed Brigade Major (BM) of an infantry division deployed in Kel, Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

When he became Lieutenant Colonel, he was posted to Madina, Saudi Arabia, where he learned the Quran and got the label of “Hafiz-e-Quran“. As he was promoted to Colonel, he operated as the Commanding Officer of the 23rd Battalion of the Frontier Force Regiment.

Furthermore, He has worked as the director general of Military Intelligence (MI). Then, in 2018, he was appointed to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) post-director-general, which was transferred as corps commander Gujranwala, where he was posted as quartermaster general for his last assignment.

Asim Munir | Sialkot Speech (Controversies and Allegations)

Asim Munir has come to the heat of news recently after he made a speech during a visit to Sialkot Garrison, where he was accused of intimidating to teach a lesson to retired PM Imran Khan and his supporters in the middle of an ongoing crackdown on PTI after the May 9 protests under the Army Act of 1952 via military courts.

Imran Khan stated that possibly Asim bears resentment against him for being asked to quit his post during PTI’s government to Munir’s speech.

Asim Munir | Retirement Date

Lieutenant General Munir had already retired on November 27, 2022, two days before the retirement of Gen Bajwa, who completed six years in the top post.
